The Process of Film Production

The art of film making is amazing. You never know it until you read about it. For sure that many people have a stereotypical thought that how film making is done, when the truth of the matter is that you don’t truly know until you research and then tour it. Film making in Dubai is just like it is in the rest of the world. It is a running market that only meets local production companies but also foreign since Dubai is one of the places where shooting sites are there.

The following are steps to make you understand how any film- ad, or movie, is made!

  • The first stage is the idea. Anything involves a plan or a mind map! With a film, the first idea is inspiration from anywhere. Believe it or not, once you have an idea, you copyright it since ideas costs millions!

  • The next step is the development of the project where the rough idea is changed into a proper developed script. This obviously is a long process and mostly everything is based into this.

  • Now, the script is written. The writers will first write a synopsis and if it’s okay they will write each word that has to be spoken and every action that has to be done. The producer agrees or disagrees on it throughout.

  • With the script complete we head towards how it will be portrayed. Here is when people are auditioned and casted. The producer also keeps a check on the budget.

  • Financing is very important. In this step the producer must secure finances and work through paying! This is very important because no money, no film.

  • Pre-production is now begun. All the cast and crew are on sets and the scripts are distributed and the shooting has started. The film is on its way of being complete; however there is more to it.

  • The shoot is one of the key points obviously. In this step the finances are settled and the shooting is to be started. Whatever is the requirement, travelling, designing, calling extras all is done while shooting

  • Post production starts whenever the raw material of every scene is complete. The editor adds sounds, vfx, graphics and everything and at the end, he puts all of the scenes together to create the film.

  • One of the many important parts is the sales. The producer needs to work to find a distributer that will sell the film to the market. The producer secures the services of the distributer and that helps the film reach the public.

  • Finally the film is marketed. Test screens, trailers, teasers, first looks these are all part of marketing. These are shown to the public and then resealed fully after a while.

Film making seems easy to those who always look in the camera, but there is much work and effort that is put to create a single scene only. It is hard, yet the result is usually worth it!
